Assemblage: Trees 10-12

At the end of 2023 I started making miniature 3D:assemblage ‘trees’ made out of found objects like wood chip, cardboard, wire, foil, bottle lids, and wine/rum bottle corks. After making the first 3 tree’s, I knew that this was a theme that I wanted to explore further. I approached each tree without any prior idea of the final look, which made the process alot more interesting for me.

By the time I got to tree 4 I realised that all of the alcohol caps and corks that I had used so far were from bottles that my boyfriend had consumed. I then decided to only use corks and lids from alcoholic drinks that he had drank from, as I thought it could potentially add an interesting conceptual layer to the ‘trees’. This works especially well as my boyfriend has a complex history with alcohol, being raised by an alcoholic father, and also dealing with his own issues with substance abuse in the past. I liked the idea of making these tiny sweet structures using parts of a vessel used to carry something that had previously caused so much harm.

I didn’t have a specific number of trees in mind but I made one whenever I had the time do so, as of now I’ve made 12 and I’d like to continue to explore this theme and will most likely be making more ‘trees’ in the future.
