Crazy Crocodiles
Continuing to work on loosening up my art style, I did some loose water colour crocodile sketches. Once again I used one of Albert Lubaki’s paintings as reference material. I also used the oppurtunity to play around with colour matching, and attempted to match the colour of my Lubaki inspired crocodile (left) to the crocodile in his painting (right).
I really enjoyed painting these crocodiles as they were a great practice in loosening up my art, I love the idea of painting things in unnatural colours, and liked the ‘spikes’ that I was able to create on their backs, and feet by pointing my brush in a particular way.
I typically sketch crocodiles from the side, but I noticed that in most African folk art and Asafo flags they typically depict crocodiles from a birds eye view point. For this project I will also be depicting crocodiles from a birds eye view point in the paintings that I create for this project.
