Pastel Crayon & Wood Carving.

One of the things that I did not like about my 25x25cm paintings was there stiffness. When I first embarked on my painting journey my intention was to paint in a loose intuitive style, but stiffness and rigidity somehow always managed to creep its way back in. In an attempt to reset, and loosen up I made some really quick, loose pastel crayon sketches. I enjoyed the process, and like the final results.

Wood carving is a medium I have been interested in for many years, and though I had made attempts in the past, I always found it very difficult and would give up before I could complete anything. This month however, I finally completed one. She is carved out of wood, painted with acrylic paint, and has wire for hair. I love the awkward handmade look of carved wood, and think it is my prefered material for making sculptures. However the process takes a long time, which is something that I have to consider for future endeavours.
